How much is an employee worth? This may sound like a simple question. One only needs to calculate how much that person is paid plus any benefits such as health insurance or other benefits and consider that as the cost of that employee right? No.

An employee – a really good employee – may be priceless to the company. A great employee is much more than the salary that is paid to that employee. A great employee provides leadership to his or her peers. A great employee provides reliable quality and inspiration to the company as well as to the rest of the staff. A great employee will be invaluable to the company.

This is why in an article in September 2015 in the Times of India it was reported that t he latest big problem at India’s top internet companies is attrition – particularly in the senior ranks.

Prized, quality employees are tremendously sought out by all companies. There are even stories of a company BUYING another company JUST so that the acquiring company can get an key employee who works for the acquired company. Indeed, Sunit Mehra, who is a managing partner at an executive recruitment company in India by the name of Hunt Partners stated that Internet companies in India “are growing so rapidly that they haven’t built the fundamental concept of retaining people, especially at the top-level.”

This is where IndiaFreelancers.com comes in. On IndiaFreelancers.com we have some of the very best programmers, web developers, database engineers and technical professionals in India. Thus, it is not unusual for people to hire a programmer on IndiaFreelancers.com as a “test” and then hire him or her away from IndiaFreelancers.com to their company.

We at IndiaFreelancers.com know this and, actually, we are happy about it. We do not want to stand in anyone’s way to their happiness. If we on IndiaFreelancers.com can give a person his or her start in the world of IT, then we are happier for it.

Yesterday, April 15th, 2016 governor Raghuram Rajan of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said that the RBI may LOWER its interest rates (lower? Yes, lower) if inflation continues to ease up and if India’s monsoon season turns out to be a good one. Governor Rajan further stated that India has “got it right” with our country’s financial policy in terms of managing our growing and emerging economy.

I could not agree more. At a time when the USA and other countries are thinking of INCREASING their interest rates, the RBI is considering LOWERING our interest rates in India. These guys could not be more wise. A lower interest rate will continue to help Indians to borrow money with which to start new businesses and thereby continue India’s rise as a world economic power.

In our lifetimes, we are witnessing the rise of prominence of India on the world’s stage. The day is soon arriving when India will be more than an “emerging economy.” India will soon be world economic power. It is through such excellent leadership like governor Rajan’s of the RBI that our economy will continue to thrive and grow. Indeed, the RBI has lowered its interest rate by an approximate cumulative amount of 1.5 per cent since a little over two years ago in January of 2015. Now THAT’S Indian leadership. That is the kind of leadership which has produced Indian native sons and daughters such as the current CEOs of companies such as Microsoft, Google and Pepsi. A slow, steady and PREDICTABLE decrease in interest rates allows us in India to better plan things. We know what to expect in terms of interest rates and therefore we can better plan when to take out loans to start, grow and/or expand businesses here in India.

This kind of Indian excellence is the excellence that is sprouting out like blooming flowers all over India in different and diverse industries from medicine to technology. Indian quality, intelligence and ability is on beautiful display on the world’s stage and making a wonderful name for itself.

Indian quality is equally greatly and wonderfully on display on IndiaFreelancers.com. On this platform/website some of the best and the brightest technology minds in India are available to be employed. Via IndiaFreelancers.com people from all over the world – Europe, China, America and many other countries – are able to hire our excellent, outstanding and superb technical minds here in India – for the betterment of the planet and the continued growth worldwide of the Indian name as a symbol of quality. So we tell our outstanding Freelancers on IndiaFreelancers.com to carefully continue to “watch your world”. Keep an eye on things such as interest rates and what the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and other institutions do so you can continue to be the crest of the wave that brings India into the 22nd century. We here at Blog.IndiaFreelancers.com will continue to keep you informed of what is happening around you as you continue your journey for India’s glory.

Freelancers: To Expatriate or to Freelance?

Every day, thousands of Indians leave our homeland seeking employment outside of India. Doctors, computer programmers, engineers and other professionals leave India daily in search of better opportunities for themselves and for their families elsewhere.

Government data show that there are about 2.8 million Indians working in Saudi Arabia, approximately 3.3 million Indians in America, about 1.2 million Indians in Canada and about 1.5 million Indians in the United Kingdom (see wikipedia).

Why so many of our citizens are leaving India to seek a better life elsewhere? Well, once upon a  time India did not have as much to keep us as it is now developing. But that is the past. Almost on a daily basis India is growing and becoming a stronger and wealthier country. Our infrastructure grows along with our financial strength as does the ability of our native India to offer our citizens a higher quality of life.

The question will someday soon not be: “Should I leave India in search of a better life elsewhere?” but instead “Why in the world should I leave India? Things are great here”

People of all skills and educational backgrounds are finding great employment opportunities in India. This is especially true for those with technical skills such as programmers, web designers and computer knowledgeable professionals. These excellent professionals can stay in India and have the work come from abroad to them by taking part in websites such as IndiaFreelancers.com.

And foreign countries know this. They know how absolutely excellent people of Indian heritage are – and they value them accordingly. Saudi Arabia, for example, announced today April 4, 2016 that expatriate workers from India who arrive in Saudi Arabia in search of work, will be given free pre-paid SIM cards on their arrival to the kingdom. Free SIM Cards! Think of it. Saudi Arabia knows what amazing quality it receives when they receive our expatriates. They know it so well that they are willing to give our citizens free pre-paid SIM cards on their arrival. It will not be long before the rest of the world knows and appreciates this as well.

Therefore, if you are a young Indian person with technical, computer, programming or Internet knowledge and skills, consider not leaving your wonderful homeland in search of a better life elsewhere. Consider working with IndiaFreelancers.com and having the world come to you!

Freelancers and Money: Employed, Freelancing or both?

More and more firms – both national and international – are making names for themselves in India. Even more importantly is that, as they do, they need more and more qualified employees.

No company in the world today can exist without having an IT infrastructure. Someone needs to take care of their network, their servers, their websites, their databases and on and on. Therefore, as companies grow, the number of well qualified personnel – especially technical personnel – that is required to keep them growing and thriving increases.

Recently, companies such as so-called “brick and mortar” companies like Tata Motors and Internet based companies such as Flipkart and Vodafone as well as financial firms such as Paytm and Future Group and established companies such as Panasonic, Mahindra & Mahindra and Godrej all announced that they are willing to pay their top performers as much as 200% more for the coming year than they paid them for the previous year – if they keep performing well and if they do not leave the company. For example, financial firm Paytm announced that it has budgeted approximately $3-4 million dollars to pay extra pay and bonuses for its top performing employees. Paytm, as well as other companies mentioned above, have announced that they will also rewarded top performing employees with generous stock options and promotions within the companies.  Companies in India are willing to pay a premium for good talent these days – and this trend is growing!

This is where IndiaFreelancers.com comes in. On IndiaFreelancers.com you, the programmer or web designer, are able to interact with these companies as a prolonged “employment interview.” Companies hire programmers from IndiaFreelancers.com all the time. The way it works is that companies first hire a programmer or developer or website designer using IndiaFreelancers.com and, when they see the quality that the freelancer brings to the table, they offer the freelancer a job in their company.

It is a wonderful “try before you buy” sort of arrangement where everyone wins. The Freelancer is able to get his or her skills in front of companies and the company is able to test the potential employee to see if their is a “fit” between the employee and the company. Everyone wins.

Therefore, if you are a young – or not so young – programmer or web developer who wishes to “break in” into larger companies and their lucrative salaries, consider creating a profile on a site such as IndiaFreelancers.com and letting these large companies FIND YOU instead of you finding them. Let them hire you on IndiaFreelancers.com and see the excellent qualities you bring to the table – and very possibly they will hire you.

Freelancers: Travel abroad

March 5, 2016

In a series of recent articles in the Times of India as well as in Hindustan Times, we note that the number of Indians travelling abroad is increasing. Of course, the costs for international travel are a major consideration in deciding to travel, but as our economy in India increases, the number of our countrymen able to travel abroad is increasing every year – and is projected to increase.

A survey recently performed by the website and travel company known as TripAdvisor noted that of the approximately 1,000 people from India who responded to their poll, a full 53% said that they had plans to increase their travel budget this coming year. Yes increase. So what amount does the average person from India budget for travel abroad? Well, the same travel site noted that the average expense for a family from India consisting of three members is expected to increase from Rs 2,17,800 in 2014 to Rs 2,55,100 this year – a 17% growth! These are amazing numbers of expense. Some families in India would never, if rarely be able to afford such an expense – let alone increase that amount for this year just for travel.

The places where most people from India travel abroad are Australia, Switzerland, New Zealand and France. The United States and/or other countries were not among the top ten destinations. Of course, costs are a major factor in deciding where to travel. According to a recent sale held on the travel site Kayak.com, an inexpensive round trip airline ticket to the United States since the price of the airline ticket to the United States alone can be as much as Rs 69,360 – for an inexpensive ticket. Imagine what it would cost for a more expensive  ticket. Still people travel abroad.

It is projected that because of the optimistic environment now in India, one where we feel that things are improving, more and more people from India will travel abroad. To make things even more interesting, in February of this year 2016, the government of Japan announced that it had extended the validity of the Visa-On-Arrival to Japan from three years to five years. What this means is that someone who wishes to travel from India to Japan, now may obtain a visa to do so by simply arriving at the airport in Japan and being granted one that is good for five years – and has multiple entry and exit authority. If any developments tell us that India is moving closer to becoming one of the major international authorities in the world, developments such as these certainly do.

We at IndiaFreelancers.com encourage our programmers and technological experts – as well as all of our freelancers – to consider travel. Consider going to the United States, Australia, and France to meet the employers who hire you. The connections that are possible can only but increase the strength of one’s pool of employers. The wonderful thing is that the income which our programmers make allows them to be among the highest paid people in India – and therefore the ones who can afford to travel abroad.

So please consider travelling abroad. Now that the government of Japan has relaxed the restrictions for travel, this tells us that they – just as the rest of the world is doing – are taking our technical, programming and other skills very seriously and wish to see us come to their countries to share our expertise with them.

Tech Freelancers: One way out of poverty in India

February 13, 2016

Poverty in India remains a reality. In the Wikipedia entry entitled “Poverty in India” (ttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poverty_in_India), it is documented that in some parts of India such as, Ranchi, Bhopal, Raipur, Patna, Imphal, Itanagar and Guwahati as much as 30% – 40% of the population of those areas live in Poverty.

What exactly does poverty mean? Well, since 1990 the World Bank has defined poverty as when people have a purchasing power of only about $1.25 a day. That is just amazing. When one considers that a typical cup of coffee at a Starbucks in the United States costs approximately $2.10, the thought that perhaps an entire family in India can have the purchasing power of only $1.25 a day is tremendously impacting. If nothing, this tugs at one’s heart.

On IndiaFreelancers.com, the average tech earns as much as $9 dollars an hour. Think of it. In a country where a family in Ranchi, Bhopal, Raipur, Patna, Imphal, Itanagar or Guwahati may be earning only $1.25 a day, IndiaFreelancers.com can give someone in this same country the possibility of earning as much as $9 per hour! In an August 2015 article in the Times of India (http://blog.indiafreelancers.com/category/academics) it was noted that a student at the India Institute of Technology student (IIT) – who has not even yet finished his or her studies – can earn as much as Rs70,000 a month (which is roughly US $1,170 a month) by simply developing only about 3 hours a day on IndiaFreelancers.com to developing software for a start up company abroad. This is nothing short of amazing. A young person who has learned to do tech work and who works just 3 hours a day has the potential to provide a family in India almost 1,000 times the income which is considered a poverty income – and one which many people in various parts of India are suffering through right now.

The government of India is making a noble push to help young Indians to learn tech by helping to ease the severity of the entrance qualifications and requirements for young Indians to enter into one of the branches of IIT. We at IndiaFreelancers.com heartily encourage the government for doing this and encourage the private sector in India to please do all it can to continue to encourage young Indians to pursue a career in the tech industry.

IndiaFreelancers.com encourages young Indians to pursue a career in the tech field. A young Indian living in Ranchi, Bhopal, Raipur, Patna, Imphal, Itanagar or Guwahati – or elsewhere in India – working on IndiaFreelancers.com – or on one of many other platforms which put programmers in touch with employers – can do a lot to help himself or herself and their families.

What to do before Freelancing: 10 Key Points

February 11, 2016

The ability to work as a Freelancer is just that – freedom! You are able to have the freedom to set your own hours, work at your own pace, work as little or as much as you wish. But are you ready? Do you have in place the safety net that is required before you devote yourself entirely to freelancing?

In a recent article in Forbes magazine (September 2014) they have provided a list of what I consider very useful points. Things that every Freelancer should at least consider before taking the plunge and doing Freelancer work full time. I have taken the Forbes list and have added some other points from my personal experience freelancing. The 10 key points to consider before Freelancing are as follows:

  1. Portfolio: Create an account on www.IndiaFreelancers.com – the up and coming website for Freelancers. Also make sure to add a picture – or various pictures – to your profile.
  2. Bank account: There may be times when you may not have work – make sure you have some cash reserves for any lean times which may come
  3. Day Job: Don’t leave your day job until you have tried Freelancing for a while
  4. Keep things separate: Create a separate business checking account with your bank – keep your home finances and your business finances separate so you can know what taxes are due where.
  5. Health Insurance and Disability Insurance: These are key. Find a reasonable health insurance carrier and start the payments for this. A big illness would wipe out any cash reserves you may have. The same is for disability insurance. If you are in a big car accident and are unable to do any Freelancer work the disability income would support you until you recover.
  6. Retirement Plan: Right now you may be 25 years old and retirement seems like a long time away but, believe me, it gets here before you know it. Even if you put away just a small amount of money weekly or monthly, anything is better than having nothing put away for retirement.
  7. Tax Planning: Make sure that you know exactly how you will pay your taxes. A common problem among Freelancers is that they do not plan for tax payments and are hit with a large tax bill at the end of the year. As my mom used to say: “Failing to plan is like planning to fail”
  8. Advertise for your services: Get the word out about your capabilities and what you can offer to a prospective employer. There is a section at the top of www.IndiaFreelancers.com called “Recommended”. This is an inexpensive way to get the word out about your business offerings. It allows you to put a small advertisement which will give you the ability to get business before others.
  9. Do high quality work: An old Chinese saying is that “Reputation is like blood”. If you do good work, soon your name and reputation will precede you. Employers will speak to other employers and soon you will have more work than you expected. Take a look, for example, at the following video on YouTube: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUSb_pKojsk). It exemplifies how a programmer’s company grew because of good word of mouth.
  10. Support Networks: Join LinkedIn, Facebook and other social media sites which will help you to create a support network of friends, family and supporters who will help you to get the word out about your services.

Those are the 10 key points. Common sense things which will help launch – and sustain – your Freelancer career. A career which will give you the freedom that comes with Freelancing while also giving you the safety of having a full time job.

Salary for Programmers

January 25, 2016

According to a recent writing in Payscale.com, the average salary for a Software Engineer or a web site developer in India is about Rs 368,064 per year. At today’s exchange rate of approximately Rs 60 for every dollar, that equals a yearly salary of approximately $6,134 dollars. What is more significant is that people who earn this much in a job in India as a Software Engineer or web site developer typically do not have more than 10 years’ experience at their profession.

Someone working as a freelancer on www.IndiaFreelancers.com, however, is able to earn this amount of money i.e. Rs 368,064 or ($6,134 US dollars) in one month, not in a year – since the employers on www.IndiaFreelancers.com pay in dollars. The best part about this is that the employers themselves are getting an excellent return for their expenditures since the programmers and developers in India are excellent. The skills that are highly sought after and the ones associated with the higher pay include Linux and Open Source programming as well as Word Press.
